Ascent of Gokyo ( 5340m : 17,520ft )
The ascent of Gokyo Ri (or Gokyo kala pattar as it’s also sometimes known ) cannot be recommended too highly . With some justification it is the highlight of most trekkers visits to the valley for the summit panorama is classed as one of the truly great Himalayan views and one that rivals the better – known kala pattar above Gorak shep . Gokyo Ri is the obvious hill that rises directly above the lake’s northern shore and from the lodges you can clearly see the paths that snake up its southern flanks . There are no technical difficulties in the ascent but there’s a height gain of 549m (1801 ft ) to face . if you go early (say an hour or so before dawn ) you stand a good chance of enjoying the summit in wind free conditions . Afternoon clouds often clothe the https://www.himalayastrek.com/nepal/trekking-in-nepal/everest-trekking/"" target="_blank" title="mountain">mountain but by sunset they’ve usually gone . sunrise can be spectacular while sunset views are supposedly very fine from the top but if you plan to experience them don’t forget to take a torch with you to see your way down in the dark .

Namche Bazaar To Thame

Namche Bazaar To Thame
As Thame is some 370m (1225ft) higher than Namche and takes from 3-4 hr to reach it is worth expenditure least one night there before returning to namche and then starting one of the higher treks either to Gokyo or Lobuche for close views of Everest. Headed by the Nangpa la on the Nepal/Tibet border the Bhote kosi is a very fine valley in the lower reaches of which lie a string of villages and several tea houses and lodges. North of Thame on the way to the Nangpa la there are as yet no facilities for trekkers but thame itself is a pleasant unspoilt village with glorious views of Thamserku amd kangtega. Above the villa there’s an important buddhist gompa where the mani Rimbu festival is celebrated during the may full moon and at the head of the Thame khola valley lies the Trashi Labtsa a glacier pass the leads to Rolwing.
